Briggs And Stratton - Briggs & Stratton Storm Responder 5500 - Do Not Buy
I had the Storm Responder 5500 with the same result: the engine blew up..
This model seems to consume oil faster than normal, and is poorly lubricated. The oil MUST be checked every 8 hours or sooner. It is not suitable to use during a storm or other emergency where you may need it for more than 8 hours of run time.
Mine died within the Warranty period, but because the oil level had dropped during use, B&S would not honor the warranty.
For the price of this model, a low oil shut-off should have been included. Cheaper brands have them on cheaper models, but B&S did not put one on this one.
Because this overly expensive generator did not include such a inexpensive part, and B&S refused to warranty it, I will never buy a B&S product again. In hindsight, I should have bought the cheap import which would have lasted just as long, but probably longer since it had a low oil shutoff, for less than half the price.
I feel B&S lied to me by calling this product "Storm Responder" since it is extremely high maintenance and can not be ran 24/7 during a storm. This model is a very light duty type not suitable for even moderate use with the price tag of a heavy duty model.
Reason of review: Warranty issue.
Preferred solution: Full refund.

A month later and no response from Briggs & Stratton, as expected.
This company has gone from the top small engine manufacturer to one of the poorest quality small engine manufacturers. At this point, you are better off buying a cheap China made product than anything from Briggs & Stratton.
