My Briggs And Stratton 550 Series Engine Troubles
My Briggs and Stratton 550 series engine on a Sears craftsman edger was hard to start after the second time I used it.
By the fourth time I used it within a year of ownership it only hit twice and would not start at all.
I prime it three times as instructed.
I used fresh gas with Startron for the stabilizer and ethanol issues like I do in all my other gas powered engines.
I've cleaned and re oiled the air filter, checked the plug gap and cleaned it.
Still won't hit a lick.

What a piece of junk !
Will never buy a product with a Briggs and Stratton engine again !!
I've had older models that ran for years with no issues at all.
What happened to Briggs and Strattons quality and reliability ??

Frustrating, ain't it? I have also had problems with this series engine and have come to the conclusion that it is better to buy a machine that does NOT use a B&S engine.
Dump the edger and buy a brand that uses something else.
I had to do this with a roto-tiller that had a B&S on it. I don't know what they are doing, but I see the results, ie., poor reliability.
Very frustrating !
It's a shame you cannot rely on B&S anymore.
I like buying American products, but my Honda mower has never failed to start once in six years of ownership.
B&S is based out of Milwaukee, but I wonder where their products are produced now ?
